The director of THE VIRGIN SUICIDES is Sofia Coppola. She is an Academy Award-winning U.S. she was the third female film director to be nominated for an Academy Award for directing.

THE VIRGIN SUICIDES was a story happened in summer. The Lisbons are a Catholic family. The father, MR Lisbon, is a math teacher and the mother is a homemaker. The family has five daughters: Cecilia is 13, Lux is 14, Bonnie is 15, Mary is 16, and Therese is 17.Their lives changed in one summer when Cecilia wanted to kill herself by cutting her wrists. But this time she didn’t succeed. A few weeks later, The lisbons’family have a party. And they invited the boys in the neighborhood. But it seems Cecilia didn’t feel happy. She went to the bedroom and jumped from the window and this time she succeed in ending her life, by being impaled by a fence post. Lisbons’family felt very sad. But they just keep quiet, they didn’t know why Cecilia suicided.So when Cecilia’s 4 sisters went to school, Lux began a romance with a playboy. One day the school had a party, so the Cecilia’s 4 sisters went with the boys in neighborhood. After the party, Lux walked with the playboy in the playground. And Lux forgot her parents’warning. She slept with the boy on the playground. But when Lux slept, he left herself slept there and didn’t wake her up. So after Lux woke up, it was the morning. When she went home, Mrs. Lisbon felt very angry. She asked lux burn all her records and didn’t want the four girls went out. She thought it was better for them. So a strange smell coming from the house permeates the neighborhood. Because long time the boys in the neighborhood didn’t saw the girls. They watched them through the Telescope. The boys called the girls and communicated by playing records over the telephone for the girls. Finally, the girls send a message to the boys and asked them come to the house. After the boys arrived, They saw the three of the sisters kill themselves in the house and Lux died in the car park area in her house.

It’s begin with a warm pictures: like a lady walked with a dog, some children playing ball and ect. And later we saw a bathroom shelf. There are something on the shelf : nail polish , some bottles and ect. And the color of these things which are blue, the cold color. It’s different from outside. It’s shows there will have bad things happen in this family. And then we saw a body of a girl in the water. It seems the girl wanted to kill her by herself. She cutting her wrists. But she didn’t succeed. She was saved with her family. So she was sent to the hospital.

In the hospital, there is a part gave me a deep memory. It’s (In the quiet hospital room, we see and hear the various machines monitoring Cecilia’s life. A pale Cecilia lies in bed with freshly bandaged wrists. A doctor makes notes, and tells a nurse to go get the girl’s patents. The doctor at her side checks her eyes. He then takes a moment, chucks her under the chin and looks at her. Doctor: What are you doing here, honey? You’re not even old enough to know how bad life gets… Cecilia looks at him. Cecilia: Obviously, doctor, you’ve never been a thirteen-year-old girl.){The text in(…) come from the script of THE VIRGIN SUICIDES which you gave us.} “What are you doing here, honey? You’re not even old enough to know how bad life gets…” “You’ve never been a thirteen-year-old girl” shows that the patents didn’t understand what their children thought. They just thought protected their children from bad things that’s enough.
Of course the doctor didn’t understand too. The results which the doctor gave was: Cecilia didn’t want to died. What she did is just want to pay attention to her family. She just wanted more love.

So Lisbons decided to have a party for Cecilia, and this time they invited the boys lived in neighborhood. They believed that when she played with the boys, she would forget that things and feel how better life it was. But It seems they were wrong this time. This time Cecilia succeed in ending her life, by being impaled by a fence post. She wanted to say something but we couldn’t hear, I think maybe she want to say she is free now, she can do whatever she want .Although Lisbons lost Cecilia, but they just keep quite, they didn’t think why their daughter suicide, and they didn’t change the way to educate their daughters. That make things worse. Only the boys who lived in neighborhood. they found the diary which Cecilia wrote before, but they couldn’t understand that she thought. they just felt there must have some secret permeated this family.

Lux forgot her parents’warning. She slept with the boy on the playground. And she woke up, it was morning. The boy left she alone on the playground.

Once there was a party in school, and Lux didn’t went home with her sisters. She slept with a playboy in the playground. The boy left her alone when he woke up. After Lux woke up it was the morning. When she went home, Her mother-Mrs. Lisbon felt very angry. So she did a wrong decide: she asked lux burn all her records, and didn’t allow the four sisters went out. I think that must the main reason why at last the four sisters chose suicide ending their life. So when Mrs. Lisbon decided closed the four girls at home and didn’t allowed them went out , there was a strange smell coming from the house permeates the neighborhood again. Only sometimes could saw the four sisters sat near the windows. Four of the faces were haggard. The boys in neighborhood were all worried about the girls. So they used the Telescope watched the four girls. They surprised that four girls became more and more strange. In the evening, Lux will went to the roof smoking , in order to attract other boys came. She knew that the boys live in neighborhood used the Telescope watched them. But she still did it . we can see her eyes , there was no lonely, no sad, just like a deep hole make people couldn’t understand what she really thought. like something which is unlife.

The four sister didn’t allow the worker to cut down the tree.

And there was a big tree in front of their house. It looked healthy outside. One day a group of workers told Lisbons’ family the tree was sick and they need to cut down the tree. But they didn’t believed. They didn’t allow them to cut. The workers have no ideas, so just leave. This part show that the Lisbons’ family was like this tree, the neighborhood saw there was nothing problem for this family, but they didn’t know there was a big problem inside of the family. The four sister didn’t allow the worker to cut down tree(as the picture show)just like the Lisbons, they just did as before, they didn’t change their way after Cecilia died. So I think that was the main reason why their children chose suicide ending their life.
Finally in one day, the boys got the message from the girls. And they decided to save the girls from that house by car in the evening .so after they went to the Lisbons’ house.

(engine running)>{this<…> part come from the screenplay on the webside.} The TV shows reported what it happened. Nobody knew the reason why the four girls suicide. Of course the boys didn’t know. They try to find out the answers ,but they got nothing.

The film looks fade from begin to the end .it didn’t have any climactic in the middle. But it gave people deep memory, because of the music. The girls they could choose leave their parents and got the new life. But they didn’t. They choose suicides to release themselves. I think they want the family the society to understand children, don’t use their own way to do for children , to decided their future, that is unfair. Children need the freedom, they also need the fair.
